LIFE IS ABOUT ONE SECOND

30 August 2017

On August 17, 2016 my son Simon Olsen passed away along with his girlfriend in an auto accident.

Through this pain and experience, my son continues to teach me. I have learned that life is about one second:

Simons girlfriend Hailie was all packed and ready to leave for college the next morning, She was missing Simon and asked her mother if she could run over and say goodbye again one last time at 11:45 pm Simon had just finished playing basketball with Chandler and his friends.

After being together, they went to the Maverick gas station at 1:45 am and bought some drinks and chips, and then they left a few seconds before the accident.

Tanner, the driver, had just gone on his first date after coming home from his mission eight days prior and dropped off his date and was driving back home from Draper, Utah.

The road they were on is not a busy road at night, driving 55 miles per hour and Simon and Hailie were on the farthest lane over. Everyone was within 1/2 mile away from their homes.

IF WE COULD ONLY GET ONE SECOND BACK IN ANY OF THE EVENTS

If her mother would have said put one more thing in the car, or if it took one second to find the keys…

If the Maverick clerk would have taken one-second longer to ring them up…

If they could have taken one more second looking for drinks or chips…

If Tanner could have had one second more with his date, getting a hug or a kiss…

If the street lights could have changed for one-second longer…

If Simon and Hailie could have spent one-second talking in the Maverick parking lot…

For all these events to line up is like winning the lottery. You couldn’t recreate this…

Simon and Hailie lives are over, but their legacy lives

Each of us has one more second in our lives.

It only takes one-second to say I love you to someone…

It only takes one-second to smile at a stranger…

It only takes one-second to say a prayer for someone in need…

It only takes one-second to stop watching TV or getting off the computer when your child comes over to talk…

It only takes one-second to change your heart from anger to happiness…

It only takes one-second to give money to a homeless person…

It only takes one-second to decide to welcome a new student at your school…

It only takes one-second to choose the right over wrong…

Each of our lives is made up of seconds…… Don’t take seconds for granted and use your next second wisely and impact your life and others….

That is the key to a World Class Life…

Love you Simon!
